Harry joins Bon Jovi

He teams up with rocker for charity single (and might sing!)

Light-hearted exchange of texts

PRINCE Harry revealed yesterday that he is teaming up with Jon Bon Jovi to make a charity record – and even threatened to sing.

Proceeds from the single, which is to be recorded this month, will go towards Harry’s Invictus Games Foundation.

The Duke of Sussex, 35, published a light-hearted exchange of text messages which purported to show him chatting with the Bon Jovi frontman, best known for his 1986 hit Livin’ On A Prayer.

In the messages, published on Harry and Meghan’s Instagram account Sussex Royal, the singer asked: ‘Hey Harry, how’s it going?’ Harry replied with a joke, saying: ‘Hey! I’m good! Just livin’ on a prayer... What’s up?’

He followed it up with another reference to the song’s lyrics, writing: ‘Don’t expect me to sing... BUT I’ll give it a shot!’

At first glance the exchange appeared to be real messages between the pair, making arrangements to record the song together. But the account made clear it was a joke, saying: ‘Disclaimer – this is not a real text conversation.’

It was the prince’s way of revealing that Bon Jovi, 57, was to record a song in aid of the Invictus Games Foundation. He will be joined by the Invictus choir, made up of British military veterans and serving personnel.

Harry will attend the recording of Unbroken at Abbey Road Studios in north-west London on February 28. It will be one of his last formal engagements before he steps down as a senior member of the royal family. He and wife Meghan are expected to attend the Invictus Games in The Hague in May – after their post-royal life begins on March 31.

Bon Jovi wrote Unbroken to highlight the plight of veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder. Both his parents served in the US Marine Corps.

Harry will watch the choir perform with Bon Jovi. If he could be persuaded to sing, he would be following in the footsteps of his older brother.

In 2013 Prince William joined Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift on stage at Kensington Palace to perform a version of Livin’ On A Prayer at a charity gala. After the performance, Bon Jovi said: ‘His royal highness was a great sport and I can assure you the man can sing.’
