Don’t put away the sun cream yet – it’s set to get even hotter!

- By Jane Fallon Griffin

GET ready to slather on some more sun cream: temperatures are set to get even higher this week.

Temperatures are expected to rise as high as 26C as the week goes on, potentially making the country even hotter than Lisbon or Madrid.

While temperatures today are set to rise as high as 25C in some parts, meteorologists warned that there is a possibility of thundery showers in some areas later in the day. The east and south of the country are set to enjoy the most sunshine, while the west is likely to experience some wet conditions.

Some areas will run the risk of showers tomorrow but many parts of the country will be sunny, with cloud cover in some areas. There will be cool sea breezes along coastal areas while inland areas will experience higher temperatures.

Thursday will be humid and dry for the most part, with sunny spells across the country and scattered showers spreading in the afternoon.

Heading into the weekend, it seems that we can hope for much more of the same warm weather with a welcome mixture of sunshine and dry weather with the occasional scattered shower.

Overall, temperatures will continue to be above average for this time of year – making it particularly tough for those sitting State exams from tomorrow.

More than 100,000 students are set to begin their Junior and Leaving Certificate examinations tomorrow morning and will be hoping not to have missed out on the good weather.

Unfortunately for schoolchildren, Irish weather tends to peak during the month of June when many young people are busy studying.
