HE is known to use olive oil in almost everything. Now Jamie Oliver has revealed he rubs it over his body too – to try to keep his skin looking young.

The TV chef, 42, said he is a ‘massive believer’ in using extra virgin olive oil instead of expensive creams.

And he said he has even used it on three of his five children, Petal, nine, Buddy, seven and one-year-old River.

said: ‘I use Clinique moisturiser on my celebrity face and then I’m a massive believer in olive oil for the body. You just rub it in vigorously – it’s what the Romans used to do and it’s what I did with River and Petal and Buddy.

‘Why spend a fortune on creams when extra virgin olive oil is the purest thing? My legs are all lovely softness.’

Olive oil has long been used as a beauty treatment. Cleopatra was said to use it on her skin alongside milk baths. While some dermatologists are sceptical about the alleged benefits, enthusiasts claim the oil penetrates deep into the skin and provides a long-lasting shield of moisture to ensure smoothness.

Oliver revealed his skincare regime in an interview with Closer magazine, saying: ‘I’ve been moisturising for the past five years or so, ever since I looked in the mirror one day and s*** myself!’

But he said he would steer clear of medical intervention to turn back the clock. ‘I haven’t had Botox,’ he said. ‘The first thing you learn when you go to catering colOliver lege is that botulinum [the toxin in Botox] is a dangerous thing, so I’m too scared to have it.’

Oliver also said he was planning to surprise his wife Jools, 43, by having his first tattoo.

He said he would have it done on his inner arm by tattoo artist Dr Woo, who has been used by celebrities including model and actress Cara Delevingne and singer Miley Cyrus.

He said: ‘I won’t tell Jools, it’ll be a surprise. Now, I know tattoos are not made for my generation – I’m not a hipster and I don’t have a beard – but I want one now. I’d have something profound, a little bit hippy and philosophical. I just don’t know what yet.’
