County get chance to earn Spurs

- By PHILIP QUINN

PÁDRAIG AMOND will have a word with fellow Carlow native Bernard Jackman after Newport County were drawn at home to Spurs in the fourth round of the FA Cup. ‘I’ll ask Bernard can he arrange Dragons training at the Rodney Parade pitch the night before,’ quipped Amond, who has attended Dragons training and games as part of his UEFA coaching badges. ‘I was hoping for Manchester United but Yeovil got them again for the second time in three years. Still, Spurs is a huge draw for a club like us and we’ll pack out Rodney Parade. ‘It’s the first time we’ve reached the fourth round in almost 40 years, so it’s a big deal here, especially as it’s likely to be live on TV,’ said Amond. ‘If we beat Spurs, it would be incredible. If we draw, we’d have a replay at Wembley which would be worth a huge amount of money to the club.’ Amond, who helped Newport beat Leeds 2-1 on Sunday, got ‘a huge kick’ out of seeing the extended highlights that night. ‘You never see teams like us on

Match Of The Day except for maybe a couple of minutes. It was great for everyone involved with the club.’ Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United will travel to Yeovil after the lowest-ranked side left in the competition beat Bradford on Saturday. Yeovil have serious giant-killing pedigree, claiming 20 scalps as a non-League club. Table-topping Manchester City go to Cardiff City or Mansfield while Liverpool host West Brom.
