THE DAYS AHEAD FOR LEO TO BECOME IRELAND’S YOUNGEST-EVER TAOISEACH:

THIS weekend, celebratio­ns will give way to deep thought on the make-up of Leo’s first Cabinet, and the new leader will want to start with key positions in Government, including a chief of staff and a press secretary. A transition team will be set up.

MONDAY Leo will meet with Shane Ross, of the Independen­t Alliance, who has already indicated that his ministers are happy to stay where they are.

TUESDAY The more difficult approach to representa­tives of Fianna Fáil, leading to a face-to-face with Micheál Martin, with the possible deployment of talks teams.

WEDNESDAY Taoiseach Enda Kenny, pictured, flies directly to Brussels from his two-day trade mission to Chicago. He appears at the Peace Park in Messines to mark the centenary of the battle for that vital ridge on the Western Front, where the Irish 16th Division and the 36th Ulster Division fought. THURSDAY Enda Kenny to visit Áras an Uachtaráin for a final meeting with President Michael D. Higgins and to hand in his resignatio­n letter. FRIDAY Enda vacates the Taoiseach’s office. SATURDAY (June 10) Polishing of the silver Seals of Office of the Taoiseach and the Ministers of Government as prescribed by the Constituti­on.

MONDAY (June 12) Oireachtas teams meet, the whips and Dáil business committee are consulted, and An Garda Síochána are advised of the plans for the installati­on of the next Taoiseach.

TUESDAY (June 13) Leo Varadkar will be nominated for Taoiseach.

6.30pm Leo Varadkar and his ministers are received in the Áras. They pose with their seals of office for photos.
