Solved! The case of the disappearing suitcase

- By Seán Dunne

THEY say if you love something, set it free, and if it loves you, it will come back – well Anne Casey did that... with her suitcase.

The carryall containing jewellery with ‘tremendous’ sentimental value and a chocolate biscuit cake left Ms O’Casey when she left the valise in a taxi before Christmas.

But now she has reclaimed the suitcase thanks to RTÉ’s Liveline after Ms Casey rang the show looking for help. She told listeners how the taxi driver had driven her from Heuston Station to her friend’s house in Rathmines.

‘I said, “I’ve got to get my bag out of the boot” and he said: “Take your time”, and as soon as I closed the door he drove off.

‘I have tormented half of Dublin looking for the case at this stage,’ she told Duffy. However, Liveline didn’t give up on the lost suitcase and the show managed to track down the driver who had not driven off with the case ‘deliberately’.

Taxi man Martin Bermingham handed the suitcase in to Finglas Garda station as soon as he realised it was in the boot of his car.

And Liveline surprised Ms Casey on yesterday’s show by arriving at the pub she runs in Ballyporeen, O’Casey’s with the returned suitcase.

An overjoyed Ms Casey said: ‘I have to give this man a good reward now. Everything is in it and everything is intact.’ She added of driver Mr Bermingham: ‘I’ll be bringing him in for a nice slice of Christmas cake now!’
