Up the Swanee! Clooney scales back house plans
NO doubt they are keen to enjoy the stunning views of the Thames from their new manor house. But it seems that George and Amal Clooney won’t be doing so from the picturesque cabin they had in mind. The veranda on the edge of their riverside property has hit a stumbling block with officials, who have told the A-list couple to go back to the drawing board. Documents reveal the Clooneys have been advised to scale down their ambitious plans for a new timber-framed cabin, which is referred to as the ‘River House’.
The star and his new wife were told their proposal was too large and jarred with ‘the riverside appearance of this part of the Thames’.
A conservation group has also waded in, claiming a fence will collect debris from the river and make the riverbank ‘very unsightly’.
The couple bought the nine-bedroom home following their lavish Venice wedding in September last year. Plans were submitted in March to add a 12-seater cinema, swimming pool with pool house and an annexe to the Berkshire mansion, which is situated near Reading.
The couple left the house covered in scaffolding and tarpaulin at the end of last year when they flew out to New York.
The couple have been temporarily based there while 53year-old Clooney shoots scenes for his latest film Money Monster.
His 37-year-old wife has been serving at Columbia Law School as a visiting faculty professor.
T hey now appear keen to return t o England and have resubmitted designs for a smaller River House, which is closer in size to the original, brick structure.
