WATCH: Trailer for new Netflix dark comedy thriller filmed and set in Ireland

The trailer for Netflix's new series "Bod‐ kin," which was filmed and is set in Ire‐ land, has been released ahead of the se‐ ries premiere on Thursday, May 9. “Bodkin," Netflix says, “is a darkly comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters [Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, Robyn Cara] who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town.

"But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imag‐ ined.

"As our heroes try to discern fact from fiction - about the case, about their col‐ leagues, and, most painfully, themselves - the series challenges our perception of truth and exposes the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or vali‐ date our fears.”

"Bodkin" stars "SNL" alum Will Forte as an Irish American podcaster. Forte is joined by Irish actress Siobhán Cullen, who plays Dove, an investigative jour‐ nalist from Dublin, and British actress Robyn Cara, who plays Emmy, a re‐ searcher who assists the podcast. The cast is rounded out by Irish actors David Wilmot, who plays the mysterious Seamus Gallagher, and Chris Walley, who plays Bodkin local Seán O’Shea. What's on Netflix also confirmed the fol‐ lowing supporting roles: David Pearse as Frank, Clodagh Mooney Duggan as Mary, Pano Masti as Pablo, Charlie Kelly as Fintan, Peter Bankolé as Charles, Seán Óg Cairns as Garda Eoin, Amy Conroy as Fagan, Mary O’Driscol as Margaret, Frank Melia as Colm, Norma Sheahan as Dot, Claire J Loy as Breeda Gleeson, and Sabine Timoteo.

Set in the fictional Irish town of Bodkin, the new seven-episode Netflix series was first announced two years ago and began filming in Ireland in the summer of 2022.

"The imaginary town of Bodkin is situ‐ ated in West Cork, and it's a wild and fabulous landscape," co-showrunner Alex Metcalf said of filming "Bodkin" in Ire‐ land, according to RTÉ.

"Union Hall [in West Cork] really ap‐ pealed to us as a location and so did its connection to the ocean.

"The fact that there's a working harbour there, and it's incredibly beautiful. "The locals in Union Hall have been in‐ credibly welcoming and helpful, and re‐ ceptive to our work in the town." Creator and co-showrunner Jez Scharf added: "I think for me, one of the really exciting things is that we've gotten to utilize the talent in Ireland - and the lev‐ el of that talent is unbelievable, across both cast and crew.

"What has personally been very exciting is getting to help showcase so much Irish talent, on screen and off." Siobhán Cullen remarked: “It's been re‐ ally brilliant shooting at home in Ireland, especially shooting in West Cork.
