ALUXURY watch brand headquartered in Belfast claimed the title of Best Start-up or Emerging Business of the Year. Founded in 2021, Nomadic has scaled to be the largest luxury watch brand in Ireland, and one of the fastest-growing in the UK.

With exports to 39 countries, Nomadic is on a mission to put Belfast on the watchmaking map.

The company specialises in attainable, modern tool watches with rugged durability, inspired by Belfast’s shipbuilding history.

Each Nomadic watch honours Belfast’s essence with a yellow second hand reminiscent of Samson and Goliath, the twin shipbuilding gantry cranes of Harland and Wolff.

With headquarters close to Belfast City Hall, Nomadic offers a boutique retail experience with watch experts available to assist customers as needed.

Founder and director Peter Mcauley said he was “shocked and delighted” by the award.

“We were delighted to be shortlisted for this award and we didn’t expect to win. It was such a strong category to be shortlisted for, so we are absolutely ecstatic to have been presented with this award.

“The success and acknowledgement that the business has received so far is the culmination of a lot of hard work spanning over a few years. So to get this recognition from the judges here tonight is brilliant.”

The entrepreneur gave an insight on what he believes makes a successful start-up and offered advice to those aiming to dive into a new business.

“Put a huge focus on understanding your customer, exactly who they are, and pinpoint exactly what it is that they want and need.

“After that, it’s down to you to test it, test it, and test it again! It’s so important to use that feedback from the market to your advantage, before you go all in.”
