Girls outperform boys in CBSE XII

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared its Class 12 examination results on Saturday and once again girls have outperformed the boys in terms of pass percentage in the examination. The top three positions have also been bagged by girls.

While the first position has been bagged by Sukriti Gupta from Montfort School, Ashok Vihar, Delhi by scoring 99.04%, the second and third positions have been taken by Palak Goyal and Somya Uppal, both from Haryana, by scoring 99.2% and 99%, respectively.

Sukriti Gupta, who wants to be an engineer and will sit for the engineering entrance examination this Sunday, is a student of science and scored 100 in Physics and Chemistry and 99 each in Mathematics, English and Computer Science.

Vanita Sehgal, headmistress of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram told The Sunday Guardian, “We have got a good result this year with two girls from the science stream scoring 98% and topping the school. We also have 27 children who scored 100 marks in various subjects.”

According to the results declared by the CBSE, the pass percentage of girls is 88.58%, while for the boys it is 78.85%.

The overall pass percentage this year has increased by 1.05% compared to 2015. Thiruvanthanapuram region has the highest overall pass percentage at 97.61%, followed by Chennai at 92.63%.

Delhi government schools have also performed well this year, with 130 schools achieving 100% results against last year’s 103. A commerce student, Aman Kumar from Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Shalimar Bagh, has scored the highest with 97% amongst the government schools in Delhi. While speaking to The Sunday Guardian, he said, “I could not believe it when I saw the result. It is a moment of happiness and pride for both me and my family. I would like to become a Chattered Accountant (CA) and have already given my CPT for the same.”

Pundrikaksh Kaudinya, principal of Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Raj Niwas, told this newspaper, “We have been getting 100% successful results since the last two years. Our children have performed very well this year with many scoring 90% marks. The quality indexes of our students have also increased by 16% this year. The topper from our school this year is a commerce student who scored 477 out of 500.”

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted a congratulatory message to all those who appeared for the examination.

A total of 1,065,179 registered for the examination, which is an increase by 2.38% from the last year.
