Anti-incumbency: Jagan drops 60% MPS, 25% MLAS
JUST BEFORE the Election Commission’s (EC'S) announcement Saturday of the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, scheduled for May 13, theYS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP declared its candidates for all 175 Assembly seats and 24 out of 25 LS constituencies in the state.
The YSRCP announced the list of its candidates at the “samadhi” (grave) of former Andhra Pradesh C MY SR ajasekh ar Reddy at I du pu lu pay a ink ada pa district, in the presence of party supremo and C MY S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh read out LS candidates’ names while state Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao did so for Assembly polls. Jagan’s nephew and Kadapa MP Y SA vin ash Reddy, embroiled in the murder case of their uncleYS Vivekananda Reddy, has been renominated.
Jagan dropped 14 of 22 sitting YSRCP MPS or over 60% of incumbent MPS to counter anti-incumbency. Jagan’s confidant, will contest from Nellore. Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s wife Botsa Jhani Laxmi will contest from Visakhapatnam and former minister Poluboina Anil Kumar Yadav from Narasaraopet.
There are 11 BC (Backward Classes), 1 STS, 4 SCS, and 9 upper caste candidates for LS polls, with An aka pal li candidate yet to be announced. For Assembly polls, Jagan dropped 25% of sitting MLAS. Sitting MPS MVV Satyanarayana and Margani Bharat will contest from Visakhapatnam East and Raj am a hen dr av am city assembly seats. Jagan will again contest from pu live nd ula. a rama krishna Reddy, who resigned from YSRCP, has been replaced with M Lavanya, though he rejoined. YSRCP sources said 50% of total LS and Assembly poll tickets have gone to candidates frombc/ sc/ st and minority communities.
