Named in FIR against Maliwal, Kejriwal fumes, attacks PM

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

CHIEF MINISTER Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he was named in an FIR filed by the Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) over alleged irregularities in the appointment of staff in the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

“A Chief Minister’s name doesn’t just show up in an FIR. The approval must have come right from the top. A Chief Minister is not named in an FIR without the Prime Minister’s approval. It is evident that it has been done on the directions of the Prime Minister. There should be a detailed discussion... we will hold a special session of the Delhi Assembly. The conspiracy behind this FIR and some incidents over the last month will be presented before the country. We will discuss this FIR in detail in the special session,” said Kejriwal.

He added, “An FIR was filed Tuesday by the ACB against the DCW. They have named me as an accused in it. I read the entire FIR to find out what my crime is. There should be some thought given, even in a regular FIR, before naming anyone in it. Before naming a Chief Minister in an FIR, they must think 10 times. There is not a single line in the entire FIR about my role in this.”

“I hope that even the DCW has not done anything wrong. There is an inquiry report with the FIR in Part B. My name is nowhere in that as well. But I have still been named as an accused,” said the CM.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia claimed that “something big is being cooked up” and naming the Chief Minister in an FIR is a “serious issue”.

The ACB had registered an FIR Tuesday against DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, accusing her of “irregularties” in the appointment of staff members of the commission. The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by former DCW chairperson and Congress women’s wing leader Barkha Shukla Singh.
