Bhavtegh shoots skeet silver in junior WC

Bhavtegh Singh Gill bagged the silver medal in skeet in the junior shotgun World Cup in Porpetto, Italy, on Monday. Going into the 60shot „nal, Bhavtegh was on par with the eventual gold medallist Benjamin Keller of USA, but eventually lost by a four-point margin.

It was a commendabl­e fare as Bhavtegh pushed Jordan Sapp of the USA, who had shot a world record 125 out of 125 in quali„cation, to the bronze medal. With Sabeera Haris winning the junior women’s trap bronze earlier, it was a healthy fare by India, to be third in the medals table behind USA and Italy.

In junior women’s skeet,

Sanjana Sood shot 114 for the 10th place and missed the „nal by one point.. Vanshika Tiwari (112) placed 13th in a „eld of 42 shooters.

India’s Anahat Singh advanced to the World Junior squash championsh­ips quarter„nals for the third straight year in Houston on Sunday. The 16-year-old National women’s champion, seeded 5/8, beat Japan’s Akari Midorikawa (9/ 16) 11-6, 13-11, 11-2 in the fourth round, and will take on Egypt’s Nadien Elhammamy (3/4) next. Meanwhile, Shaurya Bawa (17/ 32) moved to the boys’ singles quarter„nals with a 11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 13-11 win over Segundo Portabales (17/32) of Argentina. The Indian will meet Malaysia’s Low Wa-Sern (17/32) in the lasteight stage.
