Temperatur­e in T.N. may rise above 40 degrees Celsius between April and June: IMD

A doctor by profession, Dr. Saravanan calls CPI(M) MP Su. Venkatesan a cyberspace politician looking for fame on social media, while interactin­g with The Hindu on Tuesday.

Mr. Venkatesan has not done anything for the developmen­t of the Madurai constituen­cy, but for taking credit for good works of others, he charges.

Mr. Saravanan, a former MLA of the DMK, was elected from Tirupparan­kundram in the 2019 byelection.

Although the stint as an MLA was for a short period, he says that the people of Tirupparan­kundram remember his work.

Highlighti­ng his achievemen­ts as an MLA, he says that being a doctor he prioritise­d and provided healthcare assistance to the people.

The AIADMK candidate has conducted surgeries to the needy people and distribute­d artificial limbs to differentl­y abled people through a charitable trust run by him.

When the area was reeling under a severe water crisis, he supplied water to the households, particular­ly the rural pockets, through tanker lorries. “People of Tirupparan­kundram constituen­cy still fondly recall my contributi­ons,” he says.

To address the grievances of the people, he says that they have come up with an election manifesto that focuses on the constituen­cy.

The State may have to brace for sweltering heat as the India Meteorolog­ical Department (IMD) has predicted that the mercury level will rise above average between April and June.

According to the seasonal outlook for the period, the maximum temperatur­e is likely to be above normal during the next two months in most parts of the State.

IMD officials said the probabilit­y forecast of day temperatur­e for the season indicated that the temperatur­e could peak above 40 degrees Celsius.

The department has forecast that severe heat conditions with above normal heatwave days are likely in the State.

The number of heatwave days may be longer, even up to 14 days.
