Punjab scored a thrilling 76-74 victory over Tamil Nadu, after leading 40-35 at the interval, in the women’s quarter‘nals of the 74th National junior basketball in Indore on Sunday. In the men’s quarter‘nals, Chandigarh beat Tamil Nadu 92-83.

The medallists of the Brilliant Trophy chess

Pranay Akula won the Open title with 5.5 points from six rounds in the 216th Brilliant Trophy Open chess tournament at Brilliant Grammar School (Dilsukhnag­ar) on Sunday. Chidvilas Sai and Y. Murali Mohan ‘nished second and third with ‘ve and four points respective­ly. In the juniors section, Sri Samanvith and M. Akhil were tied for the top place with 5.5 points from six rounds but the former emerged winner by virtue of tie-breaker rule.

M. Akhil and Avyukth Tiwari were second and third.

St. Michael’s FC, Old Alwal, defeated Soccer Coaching Academy, Old Alwal, 2-0 in the under-13 ‘nal of the Champions Cup football tournament, organised by Friends Club (Bolarum) at Alwal PG. Akshant scored both the goals.

In the under-15 ‘nal, Rainbow FC (Ramakrishn­apuram) scored a 1-0 win over Olympian FC, Yapral with Bunny netting the match-winner.

St. Michael’s FC notched up a 1-0 win over Rainbow FC (Ramakrishn­apuram) in the under-11 category ‘nal with Jasaon scoring the winner.
