Deepti’s heroics put East on the path to victory

Off spin is king as 13 out of the 17 wickets to fall on day two was snapped up across both teams in the final of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal MultiDay trophy between East and South Zone here on Wednesday.

East could only add 21 runs to its overnight score of 108, with South skipper Minnu Mani and S. Sajana splitting five wickets between them. Minnu caught Titas Sadhu off her own bowling to complete a fivewicket haul which left East still trailing by four runs.

Miriyala Durga teamed up with G. Kamalini for a 41run stand off 81 balls for the second wicket, wearing the East bowlers down. Kamalini was dismissed after Richa Ghosh took a simple catch behind the stumps off Deepti’s bowling. Minnu Mani then joined Durga for what would be the most crucial
