Solution to yesterday’s Sudoku

A number of enlightened souls found their calling at 16 years of age, including Rama, who manifested on earth as a royal in order to show mankind how to lead a dharmic way of life. When one reaches that state of inner stillness and detachment, forces will work together to elevate such a person to a higher level, said Sri Ramanacharana Tirtha Swami in a discourse on the ancient text Yoga Vasishtam.

At 16, Rama’s friends found him to be detached, sitting as still as a painting and focused on inner thoughts. At this juncture, sage Viswamithra, who arrived there, asked Rama what had been gnawing him like a rat working away at a building. “What ails your adhi (mind)?” A relieved Rama says, “You are my bandhu, only you can help me. I am weighed down by all the happenings in this world.”

Viswamithra assuages his fear, assuring Rama that there is a way to cross this bridge of samsara, preparing Rama to be initiated by guru Vasishta. Rama, then in all humility, says he is an agnani, seeking guidance, showing mankind the way to approach a guru. Rama further asks, “There is a churning of thoughts within me. What is the meaning of life? What is the use of a kingdom? My mind is like the embers within the bole of a tree. How can my mind Žnd santi?” The answer lies in looking inwards, in self-realisation. Only then can one Žnd nirvriti.
