Narasimha Reddy Commission serves notice on former CM KCR

The issue of power purchase in Telangana is causing a controvers­y. When the Congress government came to power, it ordered an inquiry into the power purchases issue. Justice Narasimha Reddy Commission was set up for the purpose.

The commission directed officials to meet the shortfall in power contracts purchased in other States. The commission also issued notices to the former chief minister KCR. In the notices, the commission sought to know KCR’s role in the power deals with Chhattisga­rh State during the BRS regime.

It said KCR’s role in the power purchase deal should be explained by June 15, 2024. KCR sought time from the commission till July 30 to file a reply to the notice issued to him. There is a possibilit­y of a direct inquiry based on the explanatio­n given by KCR. If his reply is not satisfacto­ry, the Commission has indicated that it will directly initiate an inquiry into the role played by

KCR. The commission headed by Justice Narasimha Reddy was appointed by the State government alleging irregulari­ties in power purchases during the previous BRS party government. Some of the officials, who worked under the BRS regime, were called for questionin­g and were questioned on several key issues for the last two days. Justice Narasimha Reddy, who questioned former CMD Prabhakar Rao on Monday, sent notices to the former CM on Tuesday.
