After duping firm, doc couple issues refund

A doctor couple accused of cheating an ayurvedic firm in Gurugram has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking to quash the FIR against them on the grounds that they have issued a refund to the firm. The case was filed by the Economic Offences Wing of Gurugram police and first reported by the FPJ. The company confirmed that the couple approached it for settlement.

As per the initial complaint, the Gurugram-based firm had filed and FIR against Dr Bhushan Bhavsar and Dr Manjiri Bhavsar for posing as directors of Herbal Consultant­s Pvt Ltd and extracting Rs38 lakh from the ayurvedic firm on the pretext of a fake deal.

The Bhavsars had promised to market and distribute the products of the ayurvedic firm through their company in Mumbai. Their website, https://herbalcons­ultants.com, which purportedl­y offered various services, including marketing strategy, branding, content developmen­t, and clinical trials.

A deal was struck for Rs51 lakh, of which Rs38 lakh was paid tot the duo. However, the couple failed to deliver on time, revealing their misleading assurances about the project’s status. In April 2023, the complainan­t travelled to Mumbai to meet with the Bhavsars, but the promised meeting did not take place as agreed.

According to the Samta Nagar police, when Gurugram police arrived at the doctors’ residence at Gundecha Trillium in Thakur Village on October 20 last year, they locked themselves in their flat, attempting to evade arrest for several hours. The duo was arrested after a court order allowing the police to forcibly enter the flat.

A transit remand was obtained from the Borivali court to present them before the Gurugram court. Later, they secured a bail.
