State-board schools have welcomed the assessment policy for Class 10 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students announced by the state school education minister Varsha Gaikwad on Friday. Schools are now awaiting directions and guidelines from the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on how to conduct the assessment process.

Schools said they are working on tabulation of marks based on perfor mance in Class 10 and Class 9. Sr. Arockiammal Anthony, principal of St Stanislaus High School, Bandra west, said, "Even though we were unable to conduct final examination of Class 9 last year due to lockdown on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, we can still calculate 50 per cent subject wise marks of students based on perfor mance in the first unit test, first semester exam or second unit test of Class 9."

Sr Arockiammal added, "We are waiting for clear directions from MSBSHSE regarding calculation of 50 per cent marks based on Class 10 scores as all theory semester exams, preliminary exams and inter nals were conducted via online mode."

In addition, schools are for ming result committees for the purpose of finalisation of results after tabulation of marks. The principal of a South Mumbai school said, "We are working on ways on how the result committee comprising of six teachers and the principal can meet virtually to discuss techniques for finalisation of results. Also, we might need Information Technology (IT) support in ter ms of maintaining excel sheets, datasheets and sharing daily updates via virtual mode."

MSBSHSE will organise webinars, upload FAQs at mahahsscboard.in and set up helplines to provide a detailed understanding of the assessment process to schools and teachers.
