Ambedkar memorial: MMRDA plans bhoomi pujan on Dec 6
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the special planning authority appointed by the state government for the construction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial on Indu Mills land has set a target to complete the shore piling and excavation work by November end.
The work is being carried out on a war footing level as it aims to perform the bhoomi pujan on December 6, to pay Dr Ambedkar tributes on his 63rd Mahaparinirvan Divas.
The Mahaparinirvan divas on is observed as the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. Pravin Darade, the Additional Metropolitan Commissioner said, “The target has been set to complete the shore piling and excavation work, so that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis can perform the puja on December 6, as decided.”
According to MMRDA, 60% of the shore piling work has already been completed. Shore pilling is done to prevent the soil from falling inside the basement.
The MMRDA officials will visit the site along with the CM and other Union ministers at the end of October to finalise the statue posture. “Two prototypes of the statue of 1:25 and 1:10 scales have been made, which will be finalised in the Delhi meeting," said Darade. Prototype is also referred to as a maquette, a small scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture.
