An 18-year-old youth Chandan Giri, a pillion rider, met with an accident at Bandra Reclamation Flyover and was admitted to Hinduhri day samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Hospital of Jogeshwari.

The doctors asked the victim's relatives and friends that he must undergo an immediate surgery as he has sustained severe injuries and was shifted to Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

However, the patient has not been operated until yet, as he was diagnosed with dengue.

The friends and neighbours now alleges that the patient contracted with dengue only after he was admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and therefore the operation got delayed.

Sunil Yadav, a neighbour and one of his close friends told the Free Press Journal that when they brought him to the hospital, different tests were done on him. Yadav stated, "During that time he was not diagnosed with dengue. Doctors asked us to deposit Rs 50,000 for carrying out the operation and same was deposited. But even after that, no operation was conducted upon Giri. However, after repeated inquiries, the doctors told that the patient's blood platelets count were low and he is diagnosed with dengue. We strongly believe that the patient contracted dengue in ICU. Due to hospital negligence, the patient's life is at risk."

The hospital dean, however, refuted the allegations made by the patient's friends and relatives. Doctor Rajendra Bachaw said the boy has sustained severe injuries on his spine. "Although bone surgery is not life-threatening, we are dealing with the patient with utmost care. Also, he has not contracted dengue in hospital ICU but when diagnosed before carrying out the surgery he was detected positive. The patient was already suffering from the preliminary stage of dengue and the family might have not realised it. However, he is normal now and the spine surgery will be carry out by specialist on Thursday," he added.
