Crime Branch gets Shetye’s final post-mortem report

REVELATION It states that victim was not assaulted in her private parts as alleged by Indrani Mukherjea

A detailed 10-page postmortem report of the murder of Manjula Shetye (38), has been submitted in a sealed envelope to the Mumbai crime branch and to the District Magistrate on Wednesday. The report states that Shetye was not assaulted in her private parts as alleged by Indrani Mukherjea and Mariam Shaikh, the undertrial­s in thier First Informatio­n Reports (FIRs) by the jail officials in the Byculla jail.

According to a crime branch official, “The final post-mortem of Manjula Shetye’s murder has been submitted to us. The report states that there are 16 contusions and injuries on Shetye’s abdomen, back, thighs, legs, head, face and near her buttocks. However, the report states that she was not assaulted in her private parts with a wooden baton.”

As per the First Informatio­n Report, Shaikh had given a statement to the police that Shetye was stripped naked by the six arrested accused. “The jailor Manisha Pokharkar, jail guards Bindu Naikode, Waseema Shaikh, Sheetal Shegaonkar, Sureka Gulve and Aarti Shingne had held Shetye’s legs apart and sexually assaulted her in per private parts by inserting a wooden baton,” as mentioned in the FIR.

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, one of the advocates seemed surprise regarding the post-mortem report being submitted early to the District Magistrate.

Shaikh had given a statement to the police that after Shetye confronted the jail officials regarding the shortage of two eggs and pav, Shetye was sexually assaulted. “We are investigat­ing the role of Mukerjea, Shaikh and other inmates in the protest case,” added the official.

An official of the Directorat­e of Forensic Science Laboratory said, “We have received the samples on July 4. It is under the process of analysis.”
