It’s RSS that meddles in admin matters, not Sonia, says Congress
The Congress on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop perpetuating bundle of lies through his cronies and pawns to spread falsehoods about the role of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter in Ahmedabad.
Alleging a "conspiracy" by the Prime Minister to derail the ongoing judicial process before an Ahmedabad court, Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said: "Unlike the RSS, Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi never intervened or gave any suggestion to then Home Minister P. Chidambaram or any other person or authority in Government, on administrative matter, including the Ishrat Jahan case."
He was reacting to the statements issued for the last two days, first by union minister Nirmala Sitharaman and then by BJP spokesman Sambit Patra alleging Sonia's hand in the conspiracy to turn Ishrat Jahan, a LeT terrorist, into a "martyr." He said such mischievous attempts would not hoodwink the people as Modi and BJP President cannot put a lid on the truth in their "desperation to shut down the ongoing trial in the Ishrat Jahan case." Surjewala said truth of the case is that the CBI filed a charge-sheet in July 2013 against all police officers of Ahmedabad Crime Branch allegedly guilty of faking the encounter to bump off Ishrat Jahan and three other accomplices on June 15, 2004, pretending that they were LeT operatives. The chargesheet has been filed after three years of the High Court-monitored CBI inquiry, he said.
He asked the Prime Minister and the BJP President why are they blocking ongoing trial and not giving sanction for prosecution of the officers found responsible for the alleged fake encounter. "Why this blatant interference? What are they seeking to hide or scared of ?" "Instead of hiding behind the niceties or language of affidavits that were filed before Gujarat High Court, the Modi government is well advised to recognise the fact that finding of fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan and accomplices has been recorded by two courts i.e. Metropolitan Court, Ahmedabad and Gujarat High Court and is currently being tested in a trial court at Ahmedabad, where all the officers are facing prosecution," Surjewala added.
