ACCESSORIZE INNOVATIVELY

-

The statement flared pants have been a staple since the

1960s and, as mentioned above, suit all body types—especially the common curvy and heavybottomed physique.

Designer Seema Goenka, of the label Woven Art, recommends this trend especially for the pear or hourglass figure.

“Flare pants look feminine and chic by accentuating the height. The length of the pants should not be too long or too short, balance the flare with a fitted top and wear them with heels, boots or wedges,” she says.

Sounak Sen Barat, founder of label House of Three believes the trend is all about new beginnings, a fresh start, a sense of purity and humility with a focus on more soul than brawn.

Sharing his two cents on the trend, he says, “Flared pants a.k.a. palazzos and super-wide pleated high waist pants team beautifully with crop tops. It scrunches your waist and hides the ‘problem areas’ of the abdomen and the backside, which a lot of women are conscious of.”

Then he shares tips on how to accessorise for a western look. “Accessorise these with gladiators, a coordinated leather holdalls, a printed scarf and minimal jewellery,” points out Sounak. “On a tunic or kurta, add a pair of flip flops (with tassels) and broad-plaited leather or a canvas belt to scrunch the waist. Sunglasses and masks are your best friends to accompany this look.”

“Wide pants in denim, corduroy, satin, and silk are quite in this summer, and the silhouette falls perfectly with these fabrics. It suits an hourglass figure as well as a pear-shaped body"
