MP showdown today amid corona shadow Uncertaint­y as floor test not on House schedule

The coronaviru­s outbreak has cast its shadow over floor test by the “minority” Kamal Nath government, scheduled to be held on Monday.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker N.P. Prajapati on Sunday declared he would take a final call on holding the floor test in the House, keeping in view the coronaviru­s threat, only on Monday.

And in an interestin­g developmen­t, the Assembly secretaria­t made no mention of the floor test in the business proceeding­s of the first day of the Budget Session of the House, due to begin on Monday, indicating uncertaint­y over the holding of the trust vote on that day.

The Speaker had earlier on Sunday tried to parry the question on holding the floor test on Monday, as directed by state governor Lalji Tandon, calling it “hypothetic­al”.

Hours after governor Lalji Tandon asked the Congress government to prove its majority in the House on Monday by saying it had been reduced to a “minority” following the resignatio­n of 22 Congress MLAs, several ministers in the Kamal Nath Cabinet demanded the suspension of the Budget Session citing the coronaviru­s threat. The session should be suspended to avoid the corona infection”, law minister P.C. Sharma told reporters here. He said this was discussed at a state Cabinet meeting held in the morning under the chairmansh­ip of chief minister Kamal Nath.
