Robbers thrash, loot elderly couple

In a shocking incident, an elderly couple was brutally thrashed by a group of robbers, who broke into their house and robbed cash and jewellery worth ` 20 lakh. The incident took place in Preet Vihar early Friday.

According to the police, victim Manmohan Bansal lived with her wife and mother in Block A, Preet Vihar. Mr Bansal runs a hardware showroom in Chawri Bazar.

The police said on Friday around 4 am, 10- armed robbers broke into the victim’s house entered the house from the back by jumping over the railway line that runs adjacent to the house. The couple were fast asleep when the robbers broke inside the house. The robbers thrashed the owner and his servant with iron rods and took them hostage at gunpoint. DCP ( east) Pankaj Singh said that a probe has been initiated.

The victim, Manmohan, and his servant, Ajay, are being treated in a nearby hospital. The police suspect that the accused could be from Bangladesh.

In another developmen­t, three men, who were allegedly involved in a robbery of ` 33 lakh in northwest Delhi's Model Town, were arrested, the police said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar ( 36), Anuj ( 36) and Upender Kumar ( 33), were arrested near the Badli Bus Stand on the outer Ring Road on Thursday, Ajit Kumar Singla, ACP ( crime) said.

Two among the six accused involved were arrested within days of incident in May. One of their accomplice­s is still absconding, he said.

On May 25, when the victim, Om Prakash Sharma, was on his way from Shalimar Bagh to Model Town in a car, the accused allegedly robbed him at gunpoint and decamped with over ` 33 lakh, which was kept in a bag in the boot of the car.
