Kejriwal alleges ‘widespread tampering’ of EVMs, wants polls deferred

-

New Delhi April 4: The BJP on Sunday hit back at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his attacking stance directed on the Electronic Voting Machine tampering issue, saying that the Aam Aadmi Party supremo was trying to mislead the people by making such baseless allegation.

“The EC had advised the AAP to introspect on its performance in the recently concluded assembly elections in Punjab instead of blaming the functioning of EVMs,” BJP leader Maheish Girri said. He added that it was expected to get dismissed, as there was no point that the machines were tampered with.

“Mr Kejriwal is misleading the people. The video that he uploaded was half to mislead the people,” he added

Attacking Mr Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “When the world is moving forward, Kejriwal wants to use the old school system to mislead people.”

The poll panel’s comment was in response to a presentation that the AAP had submitted to the EC on March 25, seeking verifications of votes cast using EVMs in the Punjab assembly elections.

The party urged for crosschecking of the votes polled with the voter-verifiable paper audit trail data to settle the issue of EVM safety. “It is for your party to introspect as to why it could not perform as per your expectations and it is unfair on the part of your party to attribute the unsatisfactory poll performance to the alleged tampering of EVMs,” the EC had said.
