Man attacks wife on eve of Karva Chauth
Attacker has also sustained burn injuries

On the eve of Karva Chauth, a 20-year-old woman was attacked with acid by her husband after she refused to go to her inlaws house in Outer Delhi’s K.N. Katju Marg area on Tuesday night.
According to a senior police official, the woman has been identified as Amanpreet Kaur, who had sustained injuries to her neck, hands and legs and her sister received minor burn injuries to her legs.
The accused, who has been identified as the victim’s husband, Pradeep, has also sustained burn injuries as Amanpreet fought off her attackers resulting in the acid falling on his legs.
“She had left her in-laws house on October 5 and had been staying at her parents’ place in Rohini. On Tuesday , Amanpreet met Pradeep and he asked her to return to his house. The victim refused and Pradeep poured acid on her in a fit of rage,” said deputy commissioner of police (Outer district) M.N. Tiwari.
The attack was a result of Amanpreet’s efforts to get a divorce from her estranged husband. Pradeep has been arrested by the police, while two of his brothers identified as Jeetu and Kapil are absconding.
The incident took place Tuesday night around 9.30 pm at district park, Sardar Colony, Rohini Sector-16.
Amanpreet lived with her mother, who runs a small eatery at Sardar Colony. Amanpreet had visited her aunt who works at a local parlour to finalise her travel plans to attend a relative’s funeral in Punjab. As Amanpreet was walking towards the parlour, she was confronted by Pradeep. He asked her to accompany him to the local park to sort out their marital dispute. However, when she refused, he dragged her by her hair and pulled her inside the District Park where his brothers — Jeetu and Kapil were waiting. Pradeep tried to chase Amanpreet with the bottle of acid in order to throw the contents at her face. But Amanpreet fought him off and shoved him because of which some of the contents of the bottle spilled onto Pradeep. In the ensuing chaos, Ramanpreet also suffered burn injuries to the leg. Meanwhile, Ramanpreet had rushed to her house and narrated the entire incident after which her relatives reached the spot and took Amanpreet and her sister to Dr Baba Sahab Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
