3 held in DU fake certificate racket
With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi police on Friday claimed to have busted a racket in the capital that facilitated admissions to the Delhi University’s prestigious Sri Venkateshwara College in South Delhi using fake documents.
Sources said that as many as 15 students managed to get admissions to the college by submitting fake caste certificates. The accused have been identified as Arvind Yadav ( 28), Daya Ram ( 38) and Mukesh Man ( 19). Mukesh is a student in the Venkateshwara College and had got admission using fake documents.
The gang, which has been operating in the city for the past three years, according to the sources, charged ` 4 lakh to ` 5 lakh for admission. One of the gang’s clients includes a girl from Greater Kailash who despite scoring good marks paid ` 4.5 lakh to secure admission in college. Interestingly, the accused had advertised in leading newspapers in Delhi about facilitating admissions in the DU for which a fee amounting up to ` 5 lakh would be charged. Additional commissioner of police, crime, Ashok Chand said that in 2013, three students were admitted, while at least 10 students were admitted in this academic session ( 2014) on the basis of forged marksheets, caste certificates, transfer certificates, character certificates and physical disability certificates. The police said that the kingpin of the gang, Arvind Yadav had completed his graduation from Delhi University’s Hindu College. “During his college days, he came in contact with one Himanshu Gupta who was arrested on June 27, 2011 along with his accomplices for similar charges” said the police, adding that “after completing his B. A. Pass degree, Yadav set up his transport business but faced losses and he could not lead a lavish lifestyle.”
“Yadav, who had learned the tricks from Himanshu Gupta and was aware of loopholes in the admission process, approached Daya Ram, a teacher in a private school in Bulandsahar and both decided to start fake admission racket.” It was Daya Ram’s job to arrange fake educational certificates and caste certificates which were allegedly issued from the tehsildar office in Ghaziabad.
On August 25, Mr Chand said that Arvind Yadav was first arrested during a raid at Dwarka. From Yadav’s possession, fake certificates and a stamp of a Bara Hindu Rao Hospital doctor were recovered. Later, Daya Ram and Mukesh Man were also arrested in Yadav’s instance.
