CBI may file Maran chargesheet soon

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to entertain Dayanidhi Maran’s petition seeking to restrain the CBI from filing a chargesheet against him in the AircelMaxis case. Hours after the

SC move, top sources in the CBI said the agency is likely to file its chargesheet

as early as Friday.

The CBI has questioned local BSP MLA Sinod Kumar Shakya in connection with the Badaun murder case of two teenage girls after the agency found his role suspicious during its probe. Sources in the agency said Mr Shakya came under the scanner as the sleuths found during the probe that he was allegedly influencing the family in making various kinds of statements.

Even as the five suspects in the case have apparently been cleared of suspicion in the double murder case, sources said Mr Shakya was questioned about his role in allegedly trying to influence the family.

The CBI officials said the agency has almost solved the case and was only waiting for the final forensic reports from the medical board before proceeding with fresh arrests in the case. The sources indicated that arrest of some family members could be made if evidence suggests their involvement.

The CBI sources had said on Monday that there was no evidence linking the accused to the murder and also that no sexual assault had taken place on the two victims before their death. It may be recalled that the agency had taken into custody five accused — Pappu, Awadhesh and Urvesh Yadav ( all three brothers) and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav.

The CBI had roped in the Hyderabad- based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics which ruled out sexual assault on the two girls.

The two cousin sisters — aged 14 and 15 — were found hanging from a tree in Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh in the last week of May, an incident that sparked national outrage with the Samajwadi Party government in the state coming under fire on the issue of law and order situation.

The findings of the CBI appear to match the observations of UP DGP A. L. Banerjee who had earlier claimed that the rape of one of the victims was not confirmed and that property could be one of the motives behind the crime.
