They say if you have to teach them, catch ‘ em young. To promote and encourage kids to take action and play an active role in saving planet earth, a plantation drive was organised in the capital at the Ambience Mall recently.

The event — The Big Green Help saw a good turnout with popular Nickelodeon cartoon characters Keymon Ache and Ninja Hattori and actor Mughda Godse, who came to support the cause.

The initiative was oragnsied to teach young kids about the importance of a green planet, reveals actor Mugdha Godse. She says, “This plantation drive was specially planned for chil- dren to celebrate the Earth Hour. It is a nice way to imbibe the importance of green and clean environment among children. At my personal level I always switch off extra lights and electricity, and I also have candle light dinner twice a week at home.”

While growing up, Mugdha learned about conserving energy resources at home, and she recalls, “When I was young I grew up in Pune and we had a huge garden. I learnt about gardening and saving water from my parents. In Mumbai, I have planted small herbs in my balcony and I regularly take care of them. Once I fought with a few people who were trying to cut down a tree near my locality.”

Around 30- 35 children from a local NGO called Childreach India International also participated in this event. Vishesh Shukla from the NGO ment i o n s , “It’s a great cause and our NGO supports the save earth campaign. I think it is the right age to teach children about the importance of greenery.”
