30,000 policemen deployed to ensure peaceful Dussehra

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police heightened security for Dussehra celebratio­ns in the city. The law enforcemen­t agency has given focus on the deployment of its personnel in strategic locations. Picket arrangemen­ts were made in different areas to keep a check on the movement of criminals and policemen were also deployed in civil dress.

According to police, security was heightened on the roads connecting to Ramleela venues. "We have deployed our personnel at strategic locations for proper safety," police said.

Additional PRO Anil Mittal said that proper security arrangemen­ts were made for the festive season. More than 30,000 police personnel were on the street to make sure no untoward incident happened in the city. "CCTVS were installed at the strategic locations to monitor the movement of suspicious people," an officer said.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to attend the celebratio­ns at Dwarka area, police sources said that Special Protection Group which provided proximate security to the PM and senior officials from Delhi Police had inspected the ground.

To thwart any untoward incident in Dwarka, regular anti-sabotage checks were done in the markets through dog squad. According to police, senior officers along with the respective SHOS had held joint briefing regarding Anti Terror measures and precaution­s to be taken for the safety and security of the public in Dwarka.

Sources said that before the festive season, the Delhi Police Commission­er held a meeting with the district DCSP. The top cop directed DCSP that they should visit the major Ramleelas of their areas on the first day of Ramleela itself to check the security measures and suggest them areas of improvemen­t.

Over 3,000 calls related to crime against women made

Police sources further said that during Durga Puja (29 September to October 7), city police dealt with more than 3,000 calls related to crime against women (CAW). An officer said that in some cases there are multiple calls for one incident. "Proper action was taken in every call," another officer said. Sources further added that around 2,000 calls were regarding domestic violence. As many as 200 calls were related to eve-teasing.
