NEW DELHI: To promote inclusion of the differentlyabled and disability-related issues in the curricula of various departments and colleges at all levels, Delhi University is all set to launch a Centre for Disability Studies this academic session, which includes certificate, diploma and undergraduate courses on disability.
According to the preparatory committee report, in the initial phase, the centre would have only two courses: two semester certificate courses in disability studies and four semester diploma courses in disability studies, which will have 50 intakes, respectively.
“We are also planning to include undergraduate and post-graduate courses as well in the future,” said Dr Bipin Kumar Tiwary, Member Secretary, preparatory committee report, Centre for Disability Studies, Delhi University.
The report further says that the centre will have at least three full time professors, four associate professors and five assistant professors. It would also invite guest faculty to the Centre. Experts on disability from outside the varsity may also be invited as guest faculty.
The Centre would have three classrooms with technology support, a Director’s Office, the administrative office, a library room, a technology resource room, a seminar room, and office space for the faculty members.
“The centre will even try to create working professionals who will focus on disability, as many companies are looking to support the disabled through CSR programmes,” said an official.
