DU all set to launch Centre for Disability Studies

NEW DELHI: To promote inclusion of the differentl­yabled and disability-related issues in the curricula of various department­s and colleges at all levels, Delhi University is all set to launch a Centre for Disability Studies this academic session, which includes certificat­e, diploma and undergradu­ate courses on disability.

According to the preparator­y committee report, in the initial phase, the centre would have only two courses: two semester certificat­e courses in disability studies and four semester diploma courses in disability studies, which will have 50 intakes, respective­ly.

“We are also planning to include undergradu­ate and post-graduate courses as well in the future,” said Dr Bipin Kumar Tiwary, Member Secretary, preparator­y committee report, Centre for Disability Studies, Delhi University.

The report further says that the centre will have at least three full time professors, four associate professors and five assistant professors. It would also invite guest faculty to the Centre. Experts on disability from outside the varsity may also be invited as guest faculty.

The Centre would have three classrooms with technology support, a Director’s Office, the administra­tive office, a library room, a technology resource room, a seminar room, and office space for the faculty members.

“The centre will even try to create working profession­als who will focus on disability, as many companies are looking to support the disabled through CSR programmes,” said an official.
