Facing infrastructure crisis, hospital mulls PPP route

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

GURUGRAM: Facing immense infrastructure crisis, the management of the government hospital is now forced to consider the option of public private partnership route for better medical services.

Having already transferred crucial facilities like dialysis and MRI departments to private hand, there are now plans to even entrust the responsibility of handling emergency and OT services to private medical experts. There has however been no official confirmation of providing the latter services to private doctors. The decision to take the PPP route comes at a time when the public healthcare system in the city is going through a big challenge. Most of the facilities that have been handed over to the private hands were lying redundant for many months. Further there is also dearth of enough government doctors in the hospital.

Having been built 42 years ago, the government hospital that receives over 2000 patients daily at its OPD is in dilapidated state. Various experts have already pointed that how working under the building can be dangerous for the patients as well as doctors. Even though there is another government hospital at Sector-10 lack of essential services have resulted in many patients relying on the civil hospital that is located at Sadar Bazaar. For long there have been complaints that lack of proper medical services in public healthcare system especially in Gurugram results in patients venturing to expensive private hospitals in the city or choose Delhi government hospitals. The absence of trauma centre and other medical facilities have resulted in over 10,000 patients being referred to Delhi government hospital from 2004 till October 2017. There has also been large number of case where lack of beds or medical experts has resulted in the doctors referring patients suffering from Diahorrea and dengue to Delhi.
