NEW DELHI: Maids are often considered to be aware of all the secrets of family as they spend ample time within the house. However, not all maids keep those secrets, some have ill intentions to burgle the house once they get a chance. The Crime branch of Delhi Police busted a new modus operandi of maids who worked in pairs and befooled the family members of high profile areas in Delhi and burgled gold and other jewellery.

The seven-member maids arrested by Crime branch had a unique modus operandi. They won the confidence of the family members by their smart nature and Professional attitude. Once that was done, the gang which worked in a pair of two artistically engaged the members of the family in one gimmick while the other woman who was usually expert in breaking and opening of the locks of almirah and drawers, burgled the house looting jewellery and cash from the target house.

The DCP, Crime, Ram Gopal Naik, under who supervision the arrests were made told mediapersons, “The accused had gained enough experience on par with professional jewellers in identifying the real gold as well as the diamond, and thus chose to pick only real jewellery articles of high value leaving behind the artificial jewellery articles.”

When the Crime branch started investigating these theft cases, they observed a unique thing in the CCTV around the victim's house. It was found that there were common faces in most of the incidents. Also the turnout of the female accused was similar, almost all of them wearing shawls and sarees. During the interrogation, it was informed that all the accused belong to Bhagalpur, Bihar and adjoining areas. The women used to hide the jewellery under their shawls and sarees.

“The gang stayed in DelhiNCR for short periods and left for Bihar after amassing huge quantity of gold and diamond jewellery. The gang disposed of the articles with the help of jewellers situated in Bihar only as they had apprehension that they might be exposed while dealing with Delhi based jewelers,” Ram Gopal NAIK,DCP Crime said.
