Independents may play party-pooper in MCG polls

GURUGRAM: Presence of large number of independent candidates may spoil the chances of major political parties such as the BJP and INLD. A large number of independent candidates have better chances of winning due to their acquaintances with the local residents. In contrast, most of the voters have highlighted that the candidates do not share that kind of familiarity with the voters.

With only few days left for MCG polling, most of the candidates have begun campaigning relentlessly by putting huge hoardings and undertaking door to door campaigns.

“It is unfortunate but many candidates are undertaking the traditional ways of campaigning and trying to impress the voters by putting in huge budget in advertising. Instead, they must have a campaign where they can interact with the voters and understand their concerns,” said Anshul Bhargava, a city resident.

“There is no denying the fact that more than the party, it is the candidates that will matter. In my ward, people know me of my work first as a civil engineer and then as a social worker who addressed their concerns,” said RS Rathee who is an independent candidate from Ward -34.

“I am trying my best to meet most of the people of my ward. I am requesting them that if you vote for me and for my party there will be a greater accountability towards the citizens and the city,” said Amit Arora, BJP candidate from Ward-34.

There are more than 200 candidates for the civic elections that will be held on September 24.
