Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announces Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to each of the deceased’s kin

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the death of nine people due to lightning and announced an ex-gratia of Rs four lakh to each of the deceased’s family members.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Saturday, Jehanabad district reported three deaths followed by two in Madhepura, one each in East Champaran, Rohtas, Saran and Supaul.

The Chief Minister urged people to follow advisories issued by the disaster management department.

The Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has unearthed a human trafficking racket by arresting two persons from Tughlakhabad Extension area under Govindpuri Police Station in South Delhi. The two arrested persons, who are husband and wife, are residents of Kalyani in Nadia district.

According to sources, one of the arrested persons, Sonia Fakir, had established contact with a 30-year-old Bangladeshi woman through a friendship app and lured her to cross the border and come to the state with the promise of a lucrative job.

Sonia and her husband, Buddhadeb Gan, received the woman on May 8 and handed her a ticket for the Bikaner Express, along with a phone number to contact upon arrival in Bikaner. They also provided her with a fake Aadhaar card. However, noticing her traveling alone, alert RPF members suspected foul play. Upon questioning, the woman could not provide satisfactory answers. Further interrogation revealed the truth, leading to the filing

of a case of human trafficking at Sealdah GRP. Subsequently, an investigation was launched with the assistance of CID’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), resulting in the apprehension of the duo involved in the crime. The two were running a racket luring women with the promise of job and would send them to other states where they would be forced into sex trade.

The two will be produced in a local court in South Delhi and brought back to the state on transit remand.
