Beaten to death by masked men; prime suspect held
He was attacked and beaten by 1015 men armed with sticks and bricks
A final-year undergraduate student was beaten to death by unidentified individuals on the law college campus of Patna University on Monday, police reported.
The victim, identified as Harsh Raj, was a student at BN College, Patna University, according to a senior officer.
On Tuesday, Bihar Police announced the arrest of the prime suspect in the brutal murder. The accused, Chandan Kumar, is a final-year student at Patna College and a resident of Bihta, Patna.
Police alleged that Kumar, who resided in Jackson Hostel of Patna College, orchestrated the conspiracy to kill Harsh Raj. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra said: “Chandan Kumar is the prime accused in the case. His further interrogation is ongoing.”
The incident occurred when 22-year-old Harsh Raj was leaving his examination centre in the afternoon. He had been attending his graduation examination on the law college campus when he was attacked and beaten by 10-15 men armed with sticks and bricks. Despite being rushed to the hospital by police, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
A statement from Patna Police said: “Soon after the incident, the district police formed a SIT and apprehended Chandan Kumar, who allegedly masterminded the conspiracy, on Tuesday. During interrogation, Kumar confessed to the crime and revealed the identities of other individuals involved.”
“Prima facie, it appears that the incident may have stemmed from an old enmity. However, the exact cause will be determined upon completion of the investigation,” a senior Patna Police officer
