Tusshar moves away from comedy for OTT
Tusshar Kapoor is all set to make his web film debut with the upcoming OTT release Dunk: Once Bitten Twice Shy. But the actor, who is best-known for his comic roles in the Golmaal franchise, Dhol (2007), among others, is set to play a grey character.
“It’s a passion project for the entire team; the story is a blend of drama, crime, and a compelling social message,” reveals the 47-year-old about the Abhishek Jaiswal directorial. He elaborates on his “unique” character, too. “It is outside my comfort zone, which is why I was drawn to it. Playing a lawyer is a new challenge that excites me, and I’m eager to delve into this uncharted territory.”
On that note, Kapoor expresses his wish to explore diverse characters and break free of his comical role image. “I am not consciously looking for roles that are non-comic, but when something like this comes up, I challenge myself to do it,” says the actor, adding, “For instance, Khakee (2004), Shor in the City (2010) or the Shootout series took me out of my comfort zone, and people noticed that I was doing something different.” Having said that, Kapoor does not dismiss the genre altogether. “I will always value and cherish such roles because they have given me a lot of recognition, so that will not change.”
Dispelling misconceptions about OTT that it is meant “only for out-of-the-box content”, Kapoor asserts, “The medium caters to a diverse audience, ranging from traditional to niche preferences. It has traditional audience, masses as well as family audience. That bubble has to burst; the commercial stuff also works on OTT.”
