5 tips to keep your skin and hair beautiful this summer

- Shifa Khan

Summer is here, and our skin is not yet prepared for it. Haircare and skincare is a recurrent challenge, especially with the change of seasons. Namrata Reddy, skincare expert, talks about the many risks our skin and hair faces with seasonal transitions. She also shared ways to cope up with the effects of heat on skin during this time. Here are a few skin and hair tips you should follow this summer season to protect it from the heat:

USE A SUNSCREEN

Prolonged exposure to harsh UVrays of the sun can cause sunburn. “Using a sunscreen cream with ingredients like red raspberry can help you shield your skin from UV rays, and prevent several skin problems such as (but not limited to) inflammation and acne,” says Reddy.

SET ASIDE A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO MOISTURISE

Try to get your hands on a moisturiser with hemp seed oil. It helps to lock in the skin’s natural moisture, and prevent excess oil production — two essential qualities for harsh summers.

MODIFY YOUR DIET

“They contain essential vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that boost collagen production, reduce inflammation, and protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun,” adds Reddy.

DON’T OVERLOOK HAIR CARE

UVA and UVB rays can damage the outside cover of the hair strand, known as the cuticle, causing dullness and breakage. A simple way to prevent this is by using a hair cream, preferably with nourishing ingredients like argan oil and peppermint. These ingredients will protect your hair from UV damage.

APPLY A NOURISHING SHAMPOO

Most store-bought liquid shampoos contain numerous chemicals, upgrading to a shampoo bar can prevent a lot of hair damage. Using a shampoo with activated charcoal can help rid your scalp of impurities and strengthen the follicles, shielding your mane from the harsh summer sun.
