Actor Ruslaan Mumtaz’s wife Nirali Mehta was in for a pleasant surprise when on their sixth wedding anniversary on Monday, he also threw a baby shower for her. Excited, the father-to-be is looking forward to the arrival of their little bundle of joy in the first week of April.

“We’re freaking out as the day is coming closer,” says an excited and nervous Mumtaz, adding, “We are ready for this big change in our lives. To prep for it, we read up a lot online and seek guidance from Nirali’s friends, who are parents. They made a huge list of things to shop, and organising a baby shower all by myself made me freak out more. I was stressing but everything turned out to be perfect.”

Whether it’s going to be a girl or a boy, the most challenging thing for the couple has been to decide a name. He says, “Nirali and I have decided on a very beautiful girl’s name, which I wouldn’t like to reveal yet. For a boy, we are yet to think of a name... and I’ll just call him baby till we get one. This one is going to be a tough task.”

Mumtaz admits he and Mehta made a conscious decision to delay their parenthood experience. Sharing the reason for the same, he says, “We were in our comfort zone, enjoying ourselves, travelling to foreign countries thrice a year and were also busy with our work till last year. Then our parents started pressurising us. They said, ‘You guys have been married for five years and the more you’ll delay, the lesser chance you will have of having kids’, and like other people, we will have to either adopt a child or go through advanced treatments. We didn’t want to go through all that, so we planned this immediately.”

While the celebrations are still on, the Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara actor is a bit sad that he would be away from his wife during the last stage of her pregnancy. Mumtaz will be in Karjat, shooting for his upcoming war film that also stars actor Arjun Rampal.

“The fear is constantly there in my mind that one day I’ll get a call that she is already on her way to the hospital. Then, I’ll have to leave my shoot in between and rush. I wish I could be with her during this phase,” he signs off.
