In terms of recognition, TV has always been above films: Samir Soni

- Sangeeta Yadav

Samir Soni has been away from TV for the past seven-eight years now and is busy working on his films and web series. But the actor does miss the rush of working on a daily show and is keen to make a comeback with an interesting project.

“I always look forward to some interesting TV projects. It has its own sense of satisfaction as you get to play the same character over and over again, and whatever you do, you see it in a couple of days,” he says.

Soni became a household name with his performance in TV shows Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Parichay, and credits TV for his successful run as an actor. “Honestly, TV has given me more than what I could have asked for. In terms of the amount of recognition and appreciation we get, TV has always been above films or other mediums,” says Soni, who will be seen in Nikamma, starring Shilpa Shetty, next.

There were talks of him making a comeback with Parichay Season 2. But Soni clarifies, “People were after me to come back with the second season and I had agreed to produce it as well, but since it’s channel’s property, they are the ones who have to take a call on this.”

The 51-year-old has been conscious about his choice of work and says, “The kind of roles and shows I want to do are less. To have a role that perfectly suits my needs and logistics is difficult to find. I did say yes to a couple of shows but it didn’t work out.”

Soni has also refrained from taking up any project just to be seen on screen. “These days, only supernatural and mythological shows seem to be ruling the roost, and I don’t see myself doing that. I think I’ll do a great disservice to it,” he signs off.
