Days of lead roles are long gone, says Manasi Parekh
Actor Manasi Parekh is interested in playing good roles irrespective of their screen time, as she feels that nowadays, movies are not just about the lead characters.
“The days of lead roles, per se, I think they are long gone. It’s all about making each character work [now]. Earlier, the lead character was the most important and the others were not given much to do or say. However, I think, those days are gone,” Manasi says.
She feels that, now, filmmakers are realising that every character needs to contribute to the story of a film.
“So, I am open to any good role... be it big or small, lead or not-lead. Having said that, I am working on a feature film right now where I am the lead,” said the actor, who played the on-screen sister of actor Vicky Kaushal in this year’s blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike.
Uri and her short film, Laddoo, both were lauded at the prestigious National Awards this year.
“I am just happy that I was a part of two of the most watched and promising films of this year,” said the actor, who shot to fame with the TV show India Calling.
Manasi is also excited about her new short film, Maternity Blues. “It’s the story of this woman who gives her womb on rent. We know that commercial surrogacy is banned in India. So, the film explores why that happens. Also, I think it’s a topic that needs more discussion... It will be travelling to festivals in the UK and US,” she says.
She shares that she is also busy with a “very exciting” Gujarati feature film, in which she is playing the lead role.
