- Debasmita Ghosh

This is a small step we are taking for the protection of women. I hope to take this forward not just for Women’s Day, but in the future too

Restaurants in the city want women to get home safe after partying today; it’s their day after all. On the occasion of International Women’s Day and in the wake of the December 16 bus gang rape, clubs and hangouts in Delhi are offering a free drop-back to female guests who visit them tonight.

While some eateries, such as Fusion Lounge in GK II, Crowne Plaza Today New Delhi Okhla, Bar-king Street Bar at Connaught Place and Buzz in Saket say they will drop all their women guests at the nearest Metro station after dinner, others such as Tivoli Garden Hotel, Chattarpur, Cafe Cruise, Rajouri Garden, Bora Bora, Saket, Soy So Chinese and OTB, Khan Market, Pizzeria Rossa, Raas and OTB, Hauz Khas Village will not only drop women till the nearest Metro station but also drop them back home after 10pm.

“We want our female guests to reach home safely, and we won’t hesitate to drop them home even ourselves,” says Nikita Khattar, owner of Bora Bora. Vikram Bhalla of Tivoli group says, “Women should be able to enjoy while dining out without worrying about how to get back home.”

The news has brought some relief for girls. “More than discounts, this is what matters ... we won’t have to be stranded on the road at night, which is otherwise the biggest problem,” says MBA student Mukta Tiwari.
