Staging fun characters
Writer-director Paritosh Painter, known for his rustic yet contagious laughter-filled theatrics, is back with his next production, titled Coconut Theatre’s 3Cheers! It is a satirical comedy roller-coaster, produced by Rashmin Majithia.
Paritosh says he is “extremely” fond of the three main characters as they don’t really hold back and speak their minds. He says, “I keep in mind, whenever I write or direct, that the motive is to make the audience have a good time. What is special about 3Cheers! is its three main characters. They don’t care about who/what, as long as they are happy in their own worlds. This is the third instalment with these characters; I love them and therefore keep coming back to them. The audiences love them too.”
Starring Sangita Ghosh, Shweta Gulati, Paritosh Painter, et al, 3Cheers! is a play about Shree, Aditya and Manav — three friends who are blind, deaf and dumb. The characters are financially broke with a long list of creditors behind their backs and the problem begins, when these creditors hire a goon called Salim Supari to retrieve their money from the three friends.
Television actor Sangita Ghosh, who is making her debut in theatre with this play says, “I had a fantastic experience. I was very nervous but at the same time, I was quite excited because it was a new medium for me, and I wanted to see how well will I be received, because all these people who are with me, have been doing this for years. So they’re way more experienced than I am. I’m learning from them. It’s great fun to perform in front of a live audience. The high is something else.”
Actor Shweta Gulati, who is also part of the play shares, “The play is a fun laugh riot. It’s a light and sweet comedy, and the boys have done a good job. I have a double role and one of them is that of a cop.”
