I like weird characters, says Nawazuddin
Nawazuddin Siddqui starrer Babumoshai Bandookbaaz hits the theatres today. The actor, who is seen playing a rustic character, who is a sharp shooter, says, “This character is different and weird. I like weird characters, because real life is such; it’s not how it is usually shown in movies. This guy is ruthless, has a quirky sense of humour, has no social values, but at the same time supports gender equality. He is entertaining and quite different from a typical hero.”
Talking about working with Kushan Nandy, the director of the film, the actor adds, “This is actually his third film. When you talk to the director, you get an idea of what his vision and sensibilities with regards to a project are. There is a bit of unconventionality in Kushan, which was very appealing to me.”
Ask Kushan Nandy if Nawazuddin was the first choice for the role, and Kushan says, “Nawazuddin was not only my first choice but also my last. I may have shelved the film had he not said yes to it. The reason being that apart from being the thespian that he is, he’s a wonderfully entertaining actor. Babu had to be fun, entertaining and vulnerable, all at the same time.”
Kushan adds that having an actor like Nawazuddin only makes a director’s job easy. “He is someone who not only understands the script and the character, but also the nuances that go along with it, which makes it an absolute delight to shoot with him. When we would discuss a scene; he would suggest his own personal touches to the character, which also helped the character of Babu, rise above the script,” adds Kushan.
