POLICE DEPLOYED AT GURUGRAM COLLEGE FOR VOTE COUNTING TODAY
Security has been strengthened at the Government Girls College in Sector 14 of Gurugram, where votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections will be counted on Tuesday. Deputy commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar Yadav and Gurugram police commissioner Vikas Arora inspected all seven counting centres at the college and reviewed the arrangements, officials aware of the matter said.
Yadav said preparations for counting of votes had been completed and added that the counting process would begin at 8am.
“For the Gurugram and Badshahpur assembly constituencies, two counting centres each have been established, while Sohna and Pataudi have one centre each. An additional centre has been set up for the counting of postal ballot papers. The counting process will commence at 8 am on Tuesday,” the DC said.
According to officials, there will be 25 tables for counting of EPBTS and postal ballots, and 14 tables each at the other six centres. Staff deployment for counting duties were finalised on Monday, they said.
Candidates from the Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency have been asked to send their counting agents to the college campus by 6am on Tuesday when the EVM strong room locks will be opened.
The DC said that the counting of postal ballots will be conducted on Tuesday morning under the supervision of counting observers, followed by the counting of EVM votes. “We have urged political parties and candidates to maintain the same peaceful atmosphere during counting as was observed during the elections. Access to the college campus will be strictly regulated,” he said.
