NOIDA: A 25-year-old Btech student, who allegedly strangled his female friend to death at her paying guest accommodation on Wednesday night, died by suicide at his rented apartment in Ghaziabad later that night, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the woman’s friends tried calling her numerous times and when their calls went unanswered, they reached her paying guest accommodation in Sector 58 on Wednesday night and saw the Btech student leaving her room.

Amit Kumar, station house officer, Sector 58 police station, said, “The 24-year-old deceased woman hailed from Mathura and resided at a PG in Sector 58. After completing her MBA, she was working in the human resources department of a private company.”

“When her colleagues reached her room to check on her, they spotted a man leaving her room, and, when they went in, they found the woman lying unconscious,” said Kumar. They rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival and the police were alerted.

The SHO said, “Her colleagues revealed that she was in touch with a Mathura-based man, who resided in Ghaziabad’s Kavi Nagar. She was in contact with her friend for the past four to five years.”

“It was also revealed that relations between two were not so good for the past sometime. When the woman’s family members alleged his involvement in her death, a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the Btech student, and teams were formed to arrest him,” said Kumar.

But when police reached his home, they found him dead by hanging.

The reason for the dispute between the couple is yet to be ascertained but it came to fore that the woman’s family was unaware of their friendship. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway in the case, said police.
