Teach Delhi’s ‘tukde-tukde’ gang a lesson, says Amit Shah
NEWDELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday accused the Congress of misleading the people over the Citizenship Amendment Act and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of doing nothing for the city, prompting strong reactions by both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.
“I want to say that the Congress and the tukde-tukde gang led by it are responsible for the unrest in the city. It is time to punish them. They are to be blame for the violence in the city. People in Delhi should punish them,” Shah said, referring to the protests against the amended citizenship law in which violence was reported from near Jamia Millia Islamia, Seelampur and Daryaganj.
The Congress hit back at the allegations saying, the recent success of the party in recent polls has baffled the BJP. “The BJP is just baffled by the recent successes of the Congress in various states. As far as CAA-NRC is concerned, we have only led peaceful demonstrations and made our stand clear that any attempt to violate the ideals of the Constitution of India will not be tolerated,” said Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for integrated development hub at Karkardooma in east Delhi, Shah also said that the Delhi CM was doing nothing for the city and “taking credit” for projects planned by the Centre. “For 57 months, Kejriwal and his government did not do any work. And for last three months, they are doing ads,” the BJP president said.
The AAP criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling it an “epitome of negative politics”. “To claim that AAP has done no development work in the five years is a classic example of how removed from ground reality BJP is in Delhi and is the epitome of negative politics. Not only are they unable to see the development work which is making global headlines on its merit, they have also not understood the pulse of the people which is overwhelmingly in favour of Arvind Kejriwal due to Delhi’s transformation under his able administration,” said AAP national spokesperson Raghav Chadha.
The remarks by Shah came on a day when the Chief Election Commissioner and other top officials met to decide the dates for the election to the Delhi assembly, due before February 22, in what could be seen as the first step towards setting the wheels in motion for the upcoming Delhi polls.
